DOMESTIC PRODUCT was an emotional response to the unbalanced supreme court decision on Roe Vs. Wade in 2022. The not so surprising ruling by the court that no longer represents the majority of Americans struck a chord with so many, and immediately it rang through the automatic lyrical responses to a riff Halcion Halo had been bouncing around for years off and on. The riff didn’t have a good danceable beat, and we were never quite sure which direction to take it. Now with a purpose, we knew to make variations on the riff. Took the theme home and with a few passes on the acoustic, helped ripen the sharply pointed chorus lines. Debated a bit on using a word like “RAPE” in the lyrics, only to release we were trying to make a point and sometimes it requires making the listener uncomfortable.
Took the song live a few times before the studio to feel out what we realized was an extremely strong audience response. New fans coming up to us after asking when it would be available online. Playing small clubs with full, stacked cabinets and heavy old amplifiers is a true pain in the ass without a crew to move it all in and out for you. But the tone we’ve cultivated in the history of the wood and wiring we’ve realized is part of the performance and necessary to get the point across live.
